Rhodes is the largest of the Greek Dodecanese islands, off the coast of Turkey. Disney ships dock right outside the medieval old town walls — the Knights of St. John's 14th-century fortified city is literally a 5-minute walk from the gangway, with the Palace of the Grand Master at the top of the hill.
For the most dramatic Rhodes excursion, the village of Lindos (60 minutes south) has both a perfect cubist white village and the ruins of an ancient Greek acropolis on a 380-foot cliff overlooking the sea.
The activities Disney cruise families consistently rate highest, ranked by popularity and quality, not by what an excursion desk wants to sell.
The Knights' walled city — Street of the Knights, Suleiman Mosque, and the Archaeological Museum in the former hospital.
Best for: Cultural half-day
A reconstructed 14th-century crusader palace at the top of the old town. Multiple floors of restored medieval halls.
Best for: History families
A clifftop ancient Greek acropolis at the southern end of Rhodes. The village of Lindos at the base is whitewashed and walkable.
Best for: Family scenic day
A wide white-sand beach 40 minutes south with calm shallow water — among the best beaches in the Aegean.
Best for: Beach families
The medieval old town is walkable from the pier and doesn't need a guided tour. Lindos is far enough that the Disney bus is worth it.
$135 per person
Coach to Lindos, donkey or walk to the acropolis, lunch.
The donkey ride up to the acropolis is touristy and not recommended — walk it instead (15 minutes uphill).
Free
Walk straight from the pier into the old town, Palace of the Grand Master, lunch, Street of the Knights.
Free street performers play in the main old town square at midday.
Local spots and notable bites worth leaving the ship for — or that work well as a quick shore-side break.
📍 Rhodes Old Town
A vegetarian-friendly Greek taverna in the old town with locally-sourced ingredients.
📍 Lindos village
A long-running Lindos taverna with grilled octopus, lamb dishes, and Aegean wines.
Things that make a real difference with little kids on a port day.
Rhodes Old Town is medieval cobblestone — kids 4+ generally do fine; strollers struggle.
Lindos Acropolis is a steep 15-minute climb; not great for very young or older kids.
Greek taverna lunches are kid-friendly — shareable meze plates work for picky eaters.
Money-saving and time-saving tricks most cruisers learn the hard way.
💡 Free swimming at Elli Beach
A 10-minute walk from the cruise pier puts you at Elli Beach — Rhodes' city beach. Free, sandy, with chair rentals.
💡 Lindos sunset views
Lindos Bay's view from the acropolis is genuinely worth a clifftop sunset — though cruise schedules rarely permit.
