Naples is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Mediterranean and the access point to four major day-trip destinations: Pompeii (20 min), Capri (1 hour boat), the Amalfi Coast (90 min), and central Naples itself. Disney ships dock right at the city center.
Naples is the city most Disney cruisers find most chaotic in Europe — busy traffic, less polished than other Italian ports. But the food (Naples invented pizza) and the day-trip range are unmatched.
The practical problem in Naples is that you can realistically do one of those four things, not two. Pompeii plus a Sorrento stop fills a day; the Amalfi Coast drive is eight hours door to door; Capri is a boat ride on each end. Only central Naples leaves room for anything else. With a ~12-hour port call there is time to spare on paper, but the return-to-ship margin is what makes families pick a single anchor activity and build the rest of the day around it. If you want ruins without the full Pompeii commitment, Herculaneum sits closer to the pier and takes roughly half the time.
