Skagway is a 1,000-person town that boomed to 30,000 during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898 — and then crashed back down. Most of the original downtown is preserved as the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, so the boardwalks and wooden storefronts you see are 125+ years old.
The marquee experience is the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway — a 3-hour narrow-gauge train ride up the gold-rush trail with views of waterfalls, glaciers, and the Canadian border. It's the most popular Alaska excursion across all cruise lines and is worth booking early.
