Ensenada is a working port on Baja's Pacific coast, about 70 miles south of San Diego. Disney ships dock at a pier walking distance from the malecón and downtown. Of all Disney's Mexico stops, Ensenada has the smallest tourist polish — it's a real Mexican city, not a cruise-built complex.
Two attractions pull most cruise traffic out of downtown: La Bufadora marine geyser south of town (one of the largest blowholes in North America) and the Valle de Guadalupe wine country to the east (Mexico's premier wine region).
The activities Disney cruise families consistently rate highest, ranked by popularity and quality, not by what an excursion desk wants to sell.

Best for: Family half-day
Mexico's premier wine region — small-batch boutique wineries in a Baja desert setting. Adults only on most tours; some tastings have family-friendly garden lunch options.
Best for: Adults, wine-curious cruisers
The walkable main tourist street, 10 minutes from the pier. Shops, restaurants, the famous Hussong's Cantina (margarita's birthplace), and the malecón.
Best for: Half-day cultural option
Ensenada claims the fish taco was invented here. The Mercado Negro fish market by the pier has a row of taco stands frying the fresh catch — cheap, fast, excellent.
Best for: Foodies, quick port day
Valle de Guadalupe is the only excursion really worth booking through Disney — the wineries are spread out and need a driver. Everything else is easily done by taxi.
$165 per person
Bus to the wine valley, tastings at 2–3 boutique wineries, lunch included. Adults-only.
Wear closed-toe shoes — some wineries are working farms with gravel.
$30 round trip
Taxi out to the blowhole viewpoint with a 30-minute wait while you walk down and back.
Have your driver wait — pickup options at La Bufadora are limited.
Local spots and notable bites worth leaving the ship for — or that work well as a quick shore-side break.
📍 Fish market by the pier
The original fish-taco stands. Beer-battered fish, fresh tortilla, cilantro, lime — under $3 each.
📍 Downtown waterfront
One of the leaders of the "Baja Med" cuisine movement. Multi-course tasting menu with local seafood and Valle wines. Pricier; reserve ahead.
Things that make a real difference with little kids on a port day.
The walk from the pier to downtown is along an open malecón — flat and easy with strollers.
Avenida López Mateos has plenty of family-friendly restaurants and a non-aggressive vendor scene compared to Cabo.
La Bufadora's walk down to the viewpoint is steep on the return — kids who don't want to walk back up will struggle.
Money-saving and time-saving tricks most cruisers learn the hard way.
💡 Skip the cruise duty-free zone
The shops right at the pier are more expensive than the same goods two blocks inland. Walk to López Mateos for better prices.
💡 Cheese & honey at Valle
Valle de Guadalupe isn't just wine — boutique cheese makers and honey producers line the main road. Wine tours often include cheese tastings.
Ensenada is reliably mild — Mediterranean-style climate with dry summers and cool wet winters. Pleasant year-round; coolest in January and warmest in August.
| Months | Weather | Crowds |

Ensenada is the coolest, driest port on the Mexican Riviera — pack a light layer for evening.
The pier to downtown is a 10-minute waterfront walk.
Plentiful at the pier — always agree on price before getting in.
The port runs a short shuttle from the cruise gate to downtown's tourist arch.
