Whale Season
Cabo San Lucas sits at the tip of the Baja California peninsula where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific. Disney ships anchor offshore — Cabo is a tender port — and shuttle passengers to a downtown marina pier.
The headline image is El Arco, the natural rock arch at Land's End, reached by a 15-minute panga boat ride from the marina. Beyond that, Medano Beach (the only swimmable beach in town), whale watching (December–April), and the calm Sea of Cortez snorkel coves are the main moves.
The activities Disney cruise families consistently rate highest, ranked by popularity and quality, not by what an excursion desk wants to sell.
Glass-bottom or panga boat from the marina out to the arch, sea lion colony, and Lover's Beach. The classic Cabo half-hour photo run.
Best for: Any age, easy half-day
The main town swimming beach, walkable from the marina. Calm Sea-of-Cortez water, dozens of beach restaurants, and chair rentals.
Best for: Family beach day
December–April, gray and humpback whales pass within sight of Cabo. Several operators run small-boat tours from the marina.
Best for: Wildlife families, winter cruises
A protected cove north of town with the best snorkeling in Cabo. Boat or 4x4 access; clearest water and most fish on the Riviera.
Best for: Snorkelers ages 6+
Cabo's marina is so close to the tender pier that DIY is easy for most activities. Disney excursions earn their premium mainly for the longer wildlife and ATV tours where bus transport and timing matter.
$95 adult / $69 child
Small-boat whale tour with marine biologist guide. Disney guarantees return.
Mornings have calmer seas — book the earliest departure.
$15 per person
Walk along the marina, negotiate with one of the panga operators directly. 45–60 minutes, very flexible.
Pangas can stop at Lover's Beach for a swim — ask before boarding.
Local spots and notable bites worth leaving the ship for — or that work well as a quick shore-side break.
📍 Medano Beach
The original Cabo beachfront restaurant — sand under your feet, fish tacos, margaritas, and a kid-friendly vibe.
📍 Downtown Cabo, 10 min walk from marina
Mexican seafood spot loved by locals. Aguachile, shrimp cocktails, fish tacos — much cheaper than the marina restaurants.
Things that make a real difference with little kids on a port day.
Cabo is hot and exposed — pack reef-safe sunscreen and a hat. Medano has very little shade.
Tendering takes time. The last tender back is usually 30 min before all-aboard — plan accordingly.
Vendors on Medano Beach are persistent. A firm "no gracias" usually works.
Money-saving and time-saving tricks most cruisers learn the hard way.
💡 Skip the arch tour at noon
Sun-on-water glare washes out photos at midday. Early-morning or late-afternoon arch boats give far better photos for the same price.
💡 Real Mexican vanilla
Vanilla in Cabo shops is often "imitation" with synthetic flavoring. Look for products labeled "extracto puro de vainilla" with Veracruz or Papantla as origin.
Cabo is reliably dry and sunny. November–May is whale season and the best overall weather window. September–October overlaps with eastern Pacific hurricane risk.
| Months | Weather | Crowds |
|---|---|---|
| Nov – Apr | 70s–80s, dry | Highest |
| May – Aug | Mid-80s, dry | Moderate |
| Sep – Oct | Upper 80s, occasional storms | Lowest |
Cabo is a desert — humidity stays low and rain is rare even in shoulder seasons.
From the tender pier to the marina restaurants and Medano Beach is a flat 10-minute walk.
Small boats run between the marina and Medano Beach if you want to skip the walk.
Negotiate the fare before getting in. Standard for Santa María Bay or the airport area.
