Bike Capital
Copenhagen is the embarkation port for Disney's Baltic and Northern European sailings, and a regular port-of-call on others. The cruise terminal at Oceankaj is about 30 minutes from the city center by taxi or 45 minutes by bus.
The marquee attractions cluster around the historic center: Tivoli Gardens (the world's second-oldest amusement park, opened 1843), the Nyhavn canal-side row houses, Christiansborg Palace, and the Little Mermaid statue on the waterfront. The city is famously bike-friendly, but for a single port day, a hop-on-hop-off bus or canal tour is more efficient.
The activities Disney cruise families consistently rate highest, ranked by popularity and quality, not by what an excursion desk wants to sell.

A boat tour from the colorful Nyhavn quay past the Little Mermaid, Royal Library, and Copenhagen's waterfront sights.
Best for: Easy cultural half-day
The seat of Danish parliament with three royal reception rooms, the underground ruins, and the tower viewpoint. The tower is free.

A 17th-century royal castle with the Danish crown jewels in the basement vault. Beautiful park outside for picnic lunches.
Best for: Royals fans
Copenhagen's public transit is excellent — buses and metros are easy to navigate in English. Disney excursions are mainly worth it for the time-pressed embarkation day when you want a guaranteed-on-time return.

Bus tour through the major sights: Tivoli exterior, Nyhavn photo stop, Little Mermaid, Christiansborg.
You don't get inside Tivoli or the palaces — book separately if you want full entry.

Buy a 24-hour public transport ticket — it covers buses, metro, and trains.
Local spots and notable bites worth leaving the ship for — or that work well as a quick shore-side break.
📍 Israels Plads
A 60-stall food hall with smørrebrød, fresh seafood, pastries, and international options. Great quick lunch for picky families.
📍 Strøget
A two-story café on the pedestrian shopping street with classic Danish lunches and good kid-friendly options.
Things that make a real difference with little kids on a port day.
The walk from the pier to the city is not realistic with kids — use the bus or taxi.
Tivoli is open afternoon and evening in summer; check the season schedule before planning a daytime visit.
Smørrebrød (open-face sandwiches) make great quick lunches for families on the move.
Money-saving and time-saving tricks most cruisers learn the hard way.
💡 Skip the Little Mermaid
The statue is genuinely small (a meter tall) and crowds are massive. Photograph from the canal-tour boat instead — same view, no line.
💡 Free city bikes
Bycyklen city bikes are GPS-locked rentals you can pick up at stations across central Copenhagen — kid bikes too. Cheaper than taxis for older kids.
Copenhagen cruise season runs May to September. June and July are warmest and brightest, with daylight until 11 PM. May and September have fewer crowds.
| Months | Weather | Crowds |
|---|---|---|
| May | 60s, mild | Lower |
| Jun – Aug | 70s, warm | Highest |
| Sep | 60s, fall | Lower |
Copenhagen summers are mild — pack light layers and a rain shell. Winter cruises here are rare.
