Grand Cayman is the largest of the three Cayman Islands and a tender port — Disney ships anchor in the harbor off George Town and ferry guests ashore in tenders that hold 100–150 people each. The tender process is well-organized but adds 30–60 minutes to your effective port time on each end. Plan accordingly.
The Caymans are famous for two things: the calmest, clearest water in the Caribbean (visibility regularly exceeds 100 feet), and being a global financial center, which means everything ashore is expensive. A casual lunch easily runs $40 per person, and beach-club day passes run $80–$120 — significantly more than Cozumel or Nassau.
The single best reason to go ashore on Grand Cayman is Stingray City — a sandbar in the middle of the harbor where Southern stingrays have been hand-fed for decades and are remarkably gentle. It's genuinely one of the great wildlife encounters in the Caribbean and unlike anywhere else. Beyond Stingray City, Seven Mile Beach is among the best beaches in the world, the Cayman Turtle Centre is well-done conservation tourism, and George Town offers some of the best duty-free shopping in the region. Skip if you're budget-conscious; go all-in if Stingray City is on your bucket list.
